FLOKI Gestures - Swipe Functions

FLOKI Swipe Gestures

Whenever we have to type, the is the inescapable fact that apart from letters and numbers, there are 3 essential functions that we need: 1) SPACE; 2) BACKSPACE; and 3) ENTER, with TAB as an ancillary function. The standard solution is simply more buttons. While each of these functions takes up a separate button on a standard virtual keyboard, we take advantage of the touchscreen capabilities use swipe gestures instead of buttons.

BACKSPACE

Arguably the most important button when typing with the more error-prone virtual keyboard, is the backspace. To make this a top priority, we simply introduce a backward (right-to-left) swipe across the top 2 buttons (R1 to L1) to produce a backspace. We picked this option because it is convenient and intuitive.

SPACE

To make keep things as intuitive as possible, the space is the reverse motion of the backspace, a simple swipe across the top two buttons.  Every time you're done typing a word, swipe across the top two buttons from left to right.  The space function is shown in our video: FLOKI Basics

ENTER

A similar pattern is used for the ENTER key.  But, instead of swiping across, we use a angled, downward swipe.  The motion goes from the uppermost button on the left to the lowermost button on the right.  It's an easy combination set to remember.

TAB

While it is probably unlikely that anyone will use this button, we figured we'd put it in, just in case someone needs it.  To keep the same order, the TAB key is a swipe from the top left to the middle right.

COMING SOON...

A new video showing some of these swipe functions, error correction, and the convenience of entering usernames and passwords.
